Our History

My name is John Jasman and I'm the proud owner of Ray's. Ray's Auto Parts LLC is a family owned business that my father Raymond J. Jasman started in 1953. Ray ran the used car and auto parts business full time for many years. Eventually, he took a full-time position elsewhere, but kept the yard open with the help of my cousin Larry Sturgis on a part-time basis. Upon his retirement in 1989 he returned to the business on a daily part-time basis and kept it going until his passing in 1999.

This is where I came in. I had worked for Dad as a teenager, but was encouraged to seek work elsewhere as this line of work was a hard one. Knowing the business had survived all these years I knew I would have to step in to keep it going. Two weeks after my Dad's passing, our annual car crushers came and emptied the yard of all but 15 cars. The crusher claimed some pieces I wish I had today, but I decided right then and there that the future of Ray's would involve vintage autos. My cousin Larry stayed on with me along with a couple of other characters I inherited. Larry asked if I wanted to crush an old 1934 Hudson Terreplane that Dad had kept all these years. (It was the first car he had brought to the yard.) I told him that if Dad thought it had sentimental value then we would keep it. Today "Car 1" sits proudly on a storage van as a conversation piece and a statement about our commitment here at Ray's.

Our Present

Today, Ray's has grown to a full-time operation whose primary business is auto and metals recycling. We now own our own crusher and baler and no longer crush annually. We ship cars and bales on a weekly basis and recycle between 750 and 1000 cars annually. We also recycle loose metal from area towns, farms, and businesses. We started keeping vintage and special interest autos right after that first crush. With the acquisition of another area yard we now have over 250 pre 1980 cars and trucks. They're not all Mustangs, Chevelles, and Barracudas, so you Rambler, Corvair, and Valiant lovers will be served here.
